Position: Welding Quality Control Inspector
Job Summary:
The Welding Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of welded components, structures, and systems through meticulous inspection and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The incumbent will conduct comprehensive inspections, supervise welders, and collaborate with relevant departments to maintain and improve welding quality.
Responsibilities:
- Perform visual inspections on welded components, structures, and systems to ensure compliance with established standards, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Utilize inspection tools and equipment such as gauges, calipers, and ultrasonic testing devices to assess weld quality and identify any defects, discontinuities, or deviations.
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, including dye penetrant, magnetic particle, and radiographic testing to evaluate weld integrity.
- Review welding procedure specifications (WPS) and welding procedure qualification records (WPQR) to ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards.
- Collaborate with welding personnel to provide guidance on proper welding techniques, materials, and processes to improve overall quality.
- Monitor welding operations to identify potential issues, such as improper settings, consumable usage, or equipment malfunctions, and initiate corrective actions.
- Generate detailed inspection reports, documenting findings, measurements, and recommended corrective actions to be shared with relevant stakeholders.
- Verify and validate the qualification and certification of welders, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and certifications to ensure traceability and compliance with international quality management systems.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to welding quality control practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing welding quality and efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in welding technology preferred.
- Proven experience as a Welding Quality Control Inspector or similar role within a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Solid understanding of welding processes, techniques, and codes, such as ASME, AWS, or ISO.
- Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
- In-depth knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and related equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify welding defects and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficient computer skills, including the ability to use inspection software, MS Office Suite, and other relevant applications.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Valid certification as a Welding Inspector (e.g., AWS CWI, CSWIP 3.1) is highly desirable.
